I heard on National Public Radio that there was a planned movement afoot for this day called Roll Your Own Blackout. From 7 to 10 p.m., participants were supposed to turn off their electrical devices and engage in activities that do not require electricity.

Hmm.

Well, anyway, Edsel and I decided instead to Roll Our Own Black Cat. This is a delicate procedure involving 1 extra-chunky black cat; six pounds of fresh unsalted butter; a considerable amount of flaky pie dough; and heavy-duty hamburger tongs. Don't forget the hamburger tongs!

The process is far too complicated for me to go into a lot of detail here.

Suffice to say that the can really enjoys it. Plus, it's Good Family Fun!
